Knitting Update

Whoosh I've been busy. Knitting knitting knitting.
I've past the half way point of the Sister in law's shawl and now the hard part starts.
I get bored easily
I don't like knitting stuff I've already knitted
This shawl is knitted middle out, thus I've knitted the charts once, now I have to reknit them.
Struggle!

But here are some pictures of my progress. These are of course, unblocked, and of course look terrible, but they will do to show my progress.  It was also a test run on what I will need to block it. I don't have any blocking wires, (and no money for them so far), and this is one of the first shawls I'm really worried about straight edges.  Ideas? I was thinking of using 2 lines of tape on the floor with measurement that I want and then lots and lots of pins to stretch them to those 2 lines.....?

Dani wanted to help me 'pretty the shawl'

(yes she dresses herself and even though I've tried to tell her that
as a red head she can't wear pink or red you know those "fashion rules" and all
she
doesn't
care...

And I'm glad she doesn't!)

Knitting 2007

It's no secret that the past 3 months have been somewhat of  anti-knitting months (my hearts even been wondering into areas like cross stitch again, especially when I found some unopened kits). I'm not sure why.  Perhaps it is because most of my knitting is done in the mornings and lately the mornings have been taken up with either being sick, or lightly napping (while keeping an eye on a 4 year old) Thus no knitting, and the things that I've tried to knit have ended up at the bottom, drowned dead of the frog pond. Stuff just wasn't working.

My sister in law asked me over Christmas if I could knit her a shawl
How could I refuse. Someone asking me to knit for them? No way.
Deadline Feb 10th at her house in her hands.
Eeek.

So this weekend I took sometime and got out some needles to practice knitting again. Get those fingers back into the flow and knitted this little cute thing:
Babysock

I'm not sure when the 2nd one will be made, but it was a nice practice project. It's made with left over trekking sock yarn and is very cute. I haven't really been able to knit any baby stuff. I just can't get motivated. I have an ultrasound in a month and maybe then we will find out the gender and that will help.  I don't know. I've never been one to knit baby stuff.... But at least I have one sock now lol.

So after sending my sister in law lots of pictures of patterns I had I think we've finally decided on this shawl pattern:  Scheherazade Stole
Close up Picture here

At first Susan wanted a triangle shawl, but she's rather tall and very skinny. This is for a military ball, and I just thought she'd look better in a Stole. Plus she's a belly dancer for her hobby and these Arab like designs just scream out to me for her.

I had her pick the color of Zephyr she wanted and after searching around the internet ordered from:  Sarah's Yarns

1) Shipping was FAST. I ordered before the weekend and got it today.
2) It's already wound in a ball. My swiftlessness didn't need to freak out (surprise me)
3) It's priced much cheaper then other sites
4) Free color cards of all the other yarn for first time customers (surprise me)

I think I have already fallen in love with Zephyr...  I've casted on and did the first 4 rows already and it's just really nice yarn.

Susan chose Pewter as her color choice which at first had me a bit worried (was thinking daub grandmother gray) but this is a really pretty almost soft silver/grey color.

Pewter

I'm counting that I have about 30 days to knit this.  Not counting the edging that is knitted on... I think I figured I need to knit at least 20 rows a day.  Looks possible. It's only over 99 stitches, knitted middle out with purl back rows.  What you think?
